Ai Policy

Journal of Intan Nursing is committed to upholding academic integrity, transparency, confidentiality, and ethical scientific publication. The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is permitted in a limited and responsible manner, with the understanding that humans remain solely accountable for the entire publication process.

Policy for Authors

  1. Authorship and Responsibility: AI cannot be listed as an author or co-author. Human authors bear full responsibility for the originality, accuracy, data validity, references, and the entire content of the manuscript.
  2. Permitted Use: AI may be used in a limited capacity to improve grammar, spelling, readability, and translation, or to assist in drafting programming code—all of which must be verified by the authors.
  3. Prohibited Use: AI must not be used to fabricate or manipulate data, falsify scientific images, generate fictitious references, or present AI-generated output as scientific research or analysis that has not been verified.
  4. Transparency in Use: The use of generative AI to produce or alter the substance of a manuscript must be disclosed in an "AI Disclosure Statement" section, placed before the list of references. Such disclosure does not absolve authors of their responsibility to review and verify the AI-generated content.

Policy for Reviewers (Peer Reviewers)

  1. Confidentiality: Reviewers are prohibited from uploading unpublished manuscripts, data, or materials to AI services that do not guarantee the confidentiality and security of the information.
  2. Scientific Assessment: The evaluation of a manuscript's novelty, methodology, validity, interpretation, and scientific contribution must be the result of the reviewer's own critical assessment.
  3. Limited Use: AI may only be used to assist with language editing for reviews drafted by the reviewers themselves, provided that the confidentiality of the manuscript is maintained and the journal's policies are strictly followed.

Policy for Editors

  1. Editorial decisions: All decisions regarding the screening of manuscripts, the appointment of reviewers, and the acceptance or rejection of manuscripts remain the authority and responsibility of the editor.
  2. Information security: Editors are prohibited from inputting confidential manuscripts into external AI services that do not guarantee data protection. When using digital tools, prioritize security, confidentiality, and adherence to the journal's policies.
  3. Handling suspected AI misuse: Indications of inappropriate AI use should not serve as the sole basis for rejecting a manuscript. Editors must conduct an objective assessment, consider relevant evidence, and request clarification from the authors when necessary.

The Journal of Intan Nursing reserves the right to evaluate suspected violations of the AI policy based on evidence and the principles of editorial fairness. All parties must uphold scientific integrity, transparency, confidentiality, and accountability throughout the publication process. This policy is subject to periodic review in light of technological advancements, ethical publication standards, and relevant guidelines for scientific publishing.
